Chapter: 3922
Jeslyn, picking up on the gesture, voiced her concerns in a somber tone, “Daddy, did Miss Green decide not to teach me because she has a boyfriend? Will she marry him and have her own baby?"
Albert managed a weak smile in response. “Perhaps.”
Children often see the world in stark simplicity. Jeslyn, curious and straightforward, inquired, "So, what will you do, Dad?"
Albert, ensconced in his luxury car, mulled over the possibility of Jessie marrying someone else. He was at a loss.
Deep down, he recognized his powerlessness in the situation.
He was the one who had left her behind, despite her efforts to reach out to him in Heron. Back then, he had failed to act on her behalf.
Albert wasn't the only one bothered by the picture. Waylen got furious upon seeing it and immediately called Alexis back home.
Waylen, visibly irate, had admonished her, "The Fowler Group has only recently sealed a deal with the Waston Group. But you, by circulating that photo, you're risking Albert's sanity. If he were to unravel over this, what benefit would it bring us? Should any harm come his way, Melissa might end up bearing the brunt of the aftermath."
Alexis, unfazed, countered, "Albert won't lose his mind. He'll simply up his game to compete with that young doctor. Especially when it concerns his pride, given his age."
Waylen, skeptical, shot back, “And what makes you so sure?"
As Alexis idly fiddled with her phone, her secretary brought news that a mysterious buyer had shelled out thirty million for the photograph.
It dawned on Alexis that Jessie truly held a special place in Albert's heart, understanding how seeing Jessie with someone else would be a bitter pill for Albert to swallow.
She couldn't help but snicker at the thought.
Waylen's gaze turned icy as he rebuked her, "What's so funny? You ought to be more concerned about your own situation. It's obvious that things between you and Leonel have cooled off. He's been out and about, socializing more than ever, and you seem indifferent."
The mention of Leonel shifted Alexis’ demeanor.
She replied with a semblance of indifference, "In the business world, it's normal for men to socialize."
After a pause, Waylen broached a sensitive topic, “Are you still upset with him over Calvin's situation?"
At the mention of Calvin, Alexis visibly stiffened.
Calvin was no longer alive.
Years back, just when she and Leonel were reconciling, she had believed that Leonel had arranged for Calvin's treatment in Braseovell, where she could visit him post-pregnancy. To her despair, upon reuniting, she was greeted not by Calvin but by his grave.
