Chapter: 3937
Helen was taken aback. She knew from mutual acquaintances that Jessie hadn't been involved with anyone in years. Why had she suddenly found a boyfriend as soon as Albert returned to Duefron?
Was Jessie defending Albert as if he were a contagious virus?
Thinking of this, Helen couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Albert couldn't help but protest in a low voice in front of his mother, "You're mocking me too?"
Helen teased back, "Well, you deserve it. She's treating you the way you treated her in the past. I think it's fair. You still have feelings for her, Albert, and it's evident. Perhaps all you can do now is observe quietly and see if there's any opportunity. But remember, no matter how much you care for her or how influential you may be, you can't interfere with her current relationship. Jessie has been through a lot before. She used to love you deeply, but—"
Helen paused, her heart filled with pity for both Jessie and Albert.
There was a time when her son could have had the perfect relationship and family.
After a prolonged silence, Albert said softly, "I understand. I promise you."
Meanwhile, as Albert remained absent, Axell's relationship with Jessie flourished.
In early June, Axell's parents expressed a desire to meet Jessie upon learning of their son's new girlfriend.
Axell shared the news over the phone with a smile.
Jessie covered the receiver, sharing a glance with Lettie. Sensing their romance was blossoming, Lettie offered a gentle suggestion, "It's a rare opportunity for them to visit. You should meet them. No pressure, though."
Jessie nodded in agreement to Axell's proposal.
On Thursday night, she adjusted her schedule and was picked up by Axell. It was a surprise to her when the car stopped at his apartment, as she hadn't visited Axell's place before. She had assumed they would dine out, considering the stage of their relationship.
Noticing her hesitation, Axell explained, “My parents are from the north and aren't really accustomed to the cuisine of Duefron."
He held her hand and continued, “Sorry to have put you to such inconvenience."
Jessie smiled faintly. Since he said so, how could she make a fuss about it?
Although slightly better than Jessie's current place, the difference between their apartments wasn't that much. Still, it was commendable for a foreigner like Axell to own property in Duefron at his young age.
Axell opened the door and whispered, “My parents are easy to get along with."
Settling in, the aroma of spicy food filled the air, overwhelming Jessie's sensitive nose. She coughed, her nose turning red as she struggled with the pungent odor, appearing somewhat pitiful.
