Chapter: 3954
The past felt like a wound brutally reopened.
Jessie paled. She felt too feeble to even defend herself.
Albert felt a pang of sympathy for Jessie. Handing the child to her, he addressed Lettie, "Mrs. Green, let's have a conversation."
Lettie sneered. "Why bother talking, Mr. Watson? I've said anything I have to. You're not exactly a spring chicken, are you? I believe you're not much younger than me. Being a widower and having a child from your previous marriage-how audacious of you to meddle with my Jessie?! Don't you feel any shame?"
Albert lived a carefree life till now.
Right now, Lettie was snapping at him and he had no comeback.
He still treated her with honesty and respect. And seeing that, she got all emotional. Lettie had never really taken a liking to Albert but Jessie had once been head over heels for him. She'd do anything for him but he walked away. And now he was here, all humble. So, why had he ditched Jessie like that in the first place?
Jessie went back to her room, holding the little girl close.
Outside, Lettie cooled off and got Albert a glass of water.
He leaned in and took it with both hands. His humble stance just made Lettie scoff again. “You don't have to play this game, Mr. Waston. It's kind of creepy."
Albert was left speechless.
In the light, Lettie's face got colder. She said bluntly, "I can see you still have a thing for Jessie, but she's moved on, Mr. Waston!
It's been ages since she was into you. Yes, you treated her right and all, even spoiled her a bit, but we weren't exactly broke. The Greens were loaded back then, and now you're swimming in cash. There are plenty of young girls who'd throw themselves at you. You don't need to keep chasing Jessie. She's got a boyfriend now, and she's into him."
Lettie sighed and added calmly, "I won't dig into your past actions.
But as a mom, I'm asking you to let it be!"
Those words hit Albert like a dagger, leaving him wounded deep inside.
He totally got where Lettie was coming from. And his heart ached for Jessie.
She must've had it rough these past years.
But what could Albert even say? He couldn't spill the beans to Lettie about Jessie's boyfriend cozying up to the hospital director's daughter as well as maybe he wouldn't choose Jessie in the end.
After a lot of back-and-forth in his head, Albert finally told Lettie, "I'll let Jessie go. But if she wants to come back, I'll always be waiting."
