Chapter: 3956
Jessie felt uneasy hearing that.
She knew Albert wasn't her Mr. Right.
But she wasn't sure about Axell either. She'd only met his folks once but already hadn't exactly hit it off with them.
But who knew what the future held?
She trudged back to her room. It was midnight, but sleep eluded her.
She pulled back the curtain a bit, lost in thought.
The rain poured down hard, like a million tiny needles jabbing at everything in its path.
She watched as the door of the black car swung open, and the driver stepped out, holding the door for Albert and Jeslyn. Albert pressed Jeslyn's head on his chest and hopped into the car. Since he didn't have an umbrella, he got soaked, but Jeslyn stayed dry in his arms.
Suddenly, the little girl glanced up.
Jessie panicked and quickly shut the curtain. She didn't want Jeslyn to get any false hopes.
Because she couldn't be her mother.
Later, Jessie sneaked a peek through the curtain. Jeslyn rested her head on Albert's shoulder, looking disappointed, her bright eyes clouded with sadness...
Jessie reminded herself not to get soft-hearted.
Outside, Albert set the little girl down by the car and glanced up at Jessie's window before getting in.
His gaze lingered for about five seconds.
Then he climbed into the car.
That night, they left Duefron. He took Jeslyn on his business trip.
A week later, Jessie bumped into Albert again.
It was pure chance.
That night, there was this big concert in Duefron, featuring a famous pianist. Axell was all about these concerts. He'd even snagged tickets for himself and Jessie weeks ago. But then, out of the blue, there was some hospital emergency, so he rang Jessie, telling her to meet him at the hospital so they could go to the concert together later.
