Chapter: 3988
Jessie shook her head in response.
Lettie probed further, but Jessie remained uncertain. As they conversed, a significant piece of news popped up in Jessie's phone screen, involving Albert, the president of Duefron's Waston Group.
Jessie glanced at it, her fingers quivering slightly.
Addressing Lettie, she declared, "Mom, I need to return to Duefron right away."
Lettie tried to asked Jessie what had happened. However, when she saw her daughter's pale face, she bit her lower lip and said nothing.
Though she desired to return to Duefron with Jessie, Lettie couldn't get her to agree to this.
On her part, Jessie was afraid that if she allowed Lettie to return with her, Lettie would spend every day worrying about her and that might cause Lettie's old illness to return. After refusing her, Jessie assured Lettie that she would contact her as soon as everything was resolved.
Though Lettie didn't like Jessie's stance, she finally agreed to stay behind.
That night, Jessie caught the night train back to Duefron. When she arrived, she got off the train, got into a taxi, and directed it to take her to the hospital. As the taxi pulled away from the train station, the driver switched on the radio and began to listen to the social news.
"Reports reaching us now is that Albert Waston, the president of Waston Group, is now out of mortal danger and will survive his injuries. However, his daughter is suffering acutely from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the kidnapping and is now receiving psychological treatment."
The taxi driver shook his head slowly, sighed heavily, and softly said, "Rich people might look content from the outside, but they are far from being happy at all. They kidnapped that kid for ransom. Anyway, thank God she didn't lose her life."
Hearing this, Jessie lowered her head and squeezed her eyes shut as numerous painful thoughts flashed through her mind.
Just a little over an hour later, the taxi pulled up in the parking lot of the most expensive hospital in Duefron. As Jessie got out and handed the driver his fee, he casually said, "Visiting a patient this late in the night is quite impressive. I believe the person is very important to you, right?"
Jessie simply smiled at him weakly, turned around, and walked into the hospital.
The hospital felt cold and serious under the moonlit night, with thin and chilly shadows cast on the walls and the floor.
As Jessie climbed up the empty hall of the hospital, her footsteps echoed eerily.
When she got to the top floor of the in-patient department, which was a VIP area, she saw that it had been completely booked down by the Waston Group. The place was fully stacked with bodyguards who were there to make sure that only authorized individuals could get in.
When Jessie approached the entrance, one of them stopped her and said firmly, "This place is off limits, ma'am. You have to get Ms. Brown's permission if you seek to see Mr. Waston."
Jessie frowned slightly and said, "Please, I and Mr. Waston are friends."
The bodyguard shook his head and said, "That won't be possible, ma'am."
