Chapter: 4018
Jessie had the illusion that she had been tethered to Albert during the first half of her life and would be similarly bound to Jeslyn in the second half. Moreover, Jeslyn was Daisy's child. Despite Jeslyn not being Albert's biological child, Jessie still harbored reservations about the situation.
Jessie felt overwhelmed by her thoughts.
When she snapped out of it, she found herself already in the master bedroom, with Jeslyn happily rolling on the soft bed.
Jessie struggled to call her mother from the sofa by the window.
Despite the phone connecting, her voice sounded muffled due to the stormy weather.
"Mom, Umm... The rain is heavy. I can't come back now. Yes, I'm at Mr. Waston's house."
After a moment of silence, Lettie spoke slowly. “Jessie, think it through. If you truly don't mind his previous marriage and that child, I'll respect your decision. But if you have any doubts, it's better to end it now. Even though our family isn't as affluent as before, we don't need to chase social status. The important thing is, do you still love him?"
As Lettie finished speaking, a long silence followed on both ends of the call.
Jessie could have come up with tons of excuses. She could blame the heavy rain or the clingy child. But she couldn't bring herself to do it now because her mother knew her too well.
Jessie felt troubled.
After a moment of silence, she whispered softly, “Mom, I understand."
Upon ending the call, Lettie felt a pang of sadness. Despite accepting reality long ago, seeing her daughter with Albert still weighed heavily on her. Lettie couldn't shake off the feeling of imperfection.
If Jessie had married at the right time, her own child would have grown up by now.
Meanwhile, Jessie put her phone down.
When Jessie looked up, she noticed that Jeslyn, who had been rolling around on the bed, had fallen asleep while hugging a pillow. Her peaceful expression seemed like she was nuzzling her father.
Jeslyn appeared as innocent as a baby cub.
Jessie rose from her seat and approached the bed, gazing at the peacefully sleeping face. It was truly beautiful. Jeslyn's features bore a resemblance to those of the late Daisy, but overall, Jeslyn exuded a liveliness that Daisy lacked.
After a moment, Jessie couldn't resist gently touching her.
However, she quickly pulled her hand back.
Jessie removed Jeslyn's socks and tucked her in to ensure her comfort.
