Chapter: 4087
Nova was the only one in the room, cleaning. When she saw Leonel come in, she pursed her lips and said, “Mr. Douglas, Mrs. Douglas went out early this morning."
After saying that, she turned her attention back to her chores.
Not caring that his clothes were wrinkled, Leonel sat down at the table and lit a cigarette. Then, he asked in a hoarse voice, "Did she eat breakfast before she left?"
Glancing at the newspaper on the table, Nova muttered, “How would she be in the mood to eat anything after reading the newspaper?"
When Leonel heard this, he immediately picked up the paper to take a look at it.
The front page had a photo boldly printed on it.
It was a photo of himself and Anika.
This was also part of Anika's plan. Just to end up on the front page of the newspaper, she had spent $2 million, thinking that it was worth it if Leonel wound leave Alexis for her.
“This woman looks like a seductress," Nova said mockingly. "I think Mrs. Douglas is much better than her in every way. Why do some men like this sort of woman?"
Leonel took a drag of his cigarette and glanced at Nova with his piercing eyes. The frightened servant immediately kept her mouth shut and said nothing more.
After a long while, Leonel finally spoke up. "She's not my type," he said in a soft tone.
But Nova felt Leonel's statement didn't make any sense. If he was not interested in Anika, why would he spend so much money on her?
Did he just feel generous and want to throw his money on a random someone and in this case, Anika?
He could have done it for any one of so many reasons, but one thing Nova would never believe was the bullshit he had just told her.
Meanwhile, after drinking a cup of coffee, Leonel went upstairs. He took a shower and changed his clothes before leaving for the company.
He expected that the stock price of his company would begin to plummet soon after the opening of the stock market. Moreover, he was sure that both Marcus and Edwin would never ignore such a great opportunity to drag him down, and it was very likely that Albert would also join in.
In other words, he would soon have a very hard time, especially if his prediction came true.
While turning the issue over in his head, Leonel ran down the stairs absentmindedly. The driver and Noreen were already waiting for him at the front door. As soon as he got into the car, Noreen briefed him on the current situation, "The major shareholders are panicked and expecting a joint statement from you and Mrs. Douglas in response to the story in the papers.”
Leonel sat quietly in the back seat as he listened to Noreen speak.
Though his face was red and swollen, he still looked quite as handsome as usual. After hearing what Noreen had to say, he replied sternly, "There will be no response. Alexis is already filing for divorce."
