Chapter: 4118
Her assistant exhaled a silent sigh of relief.
Returning to her work, Alexis organized her documents before making her way to meet Leonel, knowing all too well that avoiding him was not an option.
She found Leonel waiting in the reception room, impeccably dressed, the gleam from his wedding ring impossible to ignore.
A plain kraft bag rested on the table-its contents a mystery.
Pausing at the doorway, Alexis spoke with an air of casual detachment, “Mr. Douglas, looking well. Is this a social call, or should I expect a wedding invite?"
Leonel couldn't tear his gaze away from Alexis.
She looked remarkably better than before, and the sadness that once clouded her expression seemingly vanished. It was as if someone named Leonel had never caused her any pain.
Unconsciously, Leonel traced the outline of his wedding ring with his fingertips.
Alexis breezed into the room, making a beeline for the nearby pantry to fix herself a cup of coffee without bothering to ask if he wanted any. Such courtesy seemed unnecessary now.
As the coffee machine hummed to life, Leonel's voice came out hoarse.
"You didn't take anything in the divorce. Here's the deal. Besides transferring twenty percent of my company's shares to your name, you can move back to the villa with the kids. They're used to it there."
His words hung in the air as the coffee machine fell silent.
Taking a sip of her freshly brewed coffee, Alexis settled into a seat across from him. It was the first time in months that they had conversed calmly.
Alexis met Leonel's gaze squarely.
She wasn't naive. She understood Leonel's attempt to win her over.
Twenty percent of his company's shares valued at billions, and he just handed to her so easily?
Was it really that simple?
He desired nothing more than her reconciliation and her change of heart, but there was no going back.
With a faint smile, Alexis declined firmly, "The divorce agreement clearly states we go our separate ways without taking advantage of each other. As for the villa, I have no interest. You can keep it or sell it, it's your call. I just have a few things there that I'll had to collect."
Leonel grasped that she wasn't keen on seeing him.
