Chapter: 4245
Seeing that Leonel was rather determined, Evelyn propped her chin on her hand and murmured, “I wish Mom could enjoy it too."

Leonel's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Alexis.

Usually, Evelyn avoided discussing anything related to Alexis, and Leonel refrained from probing, fearing it might dredge up painful memories for Evelyn.

But this time, Evelyn broached the subject herself, leaving Leonel unable to resist asking, "What's going on with your mom?"

Evelyn cast a sorrowful glance at him with her innocent eyes.

"It's because of the heat. Mom doesn't feel like eating lately, and the baby in her belly is becoming weak... The doctor said Mom will get very tired if this continues."

Her concern was palpable in her expression.

Leonel tousled her hair gently and said hoarsely, “Well, it's time to pick up Daniel.”

Shortly after, he returned with Daniel.

Over the past few months, Daniel had shot up in height, becoming quite popular at school with his tall stature and handsome features.

He even occasionally helped Evelyn carry her backpack to school.

At the sight of Evelyn and Daniel, Leonel often found himself lost in thoughts, the children evoking memories of the past when he used to accompany Alexis, carrying her schoolbag as they walked to school.

Back then, Alexis would lead the way, bounding ahead with joy.

As Daniel enjoyed his treat, Leonel murmured softly, "I'll drop you off later, but I'll pick you up in the morning.”

Daniel, taken aback, asked in confusion, "What's going on, Dad?"

Leonel coughed awkwardly before replying, "Ah, just a little unexpected thing. But don't worry, it's nothing major! I'll make some more of this for you to take back and enjoy at home."

Unlike Evelyn, Daniel wasn't overly eager for sweets.

The boy wiped his mouth with a napkin and asked calmly, “Are they for Evelyn and me, or for Mom?"

Leonel was stunned to hear that.

The relationship between him and Alexis was quite complex, and he found it somewhat awkward to display his emotions in front of the children, especially Daniel, who had always been more mature than his peers.
