Chapter: 4255
Before leaving, Rena murmured, “She's fresh out of delivery. Take it easy, Leonel."
His voice tight, Leonel replied, "Got it, mom."
After a pause, Rena chose silence, turning to Alexis to say, “I'll go have a word with your doctor. Then we're out."
Propped against pillows, Alexis nodded.
Once Rena exited, Leonel's gaze landed on Alexis. She didn't look great. The delivery had taken its toll and recovery might take a while.
With tightness in his throat, Leonel spoke up. "Alexis."
Alexis remained composed, meeting his gaze. "The baby's there. Take a peek, but she's out cold. Don't disturb her."
But Leonel couldn't bring himself to move.
He glanced at his ex, the mother of his three kids. He'd been trying to win her back ever since they had separated.
"Alexis, let me help. I'll respect your wishes. The kids need a dad."
Their ship had sailed long ago. Despite Alexis trying to keep calm, his words stirred something. “The kids are just fine without one," she snapped.
Leonel's eyes darkened. “It's my fault."
He hoped for another shot.
Tension hung heavy in the air.
Finally, Alexis broke the silence.
She softened. "Leonel, I get it. You want us back for the kids' sake. But we know each other too well. Can we really go back? Being civil is all I can offer."
His expression darkened. Alexis was the one who had just given birth, yet he looked paler than her.
He absorbed her words.
When he looked up, his gaze softened. "Got it."
Alexis knew he wouldn't quit but she felt stuck.
