Chapter: 4273
With a casual demeanor, Leonel continued to serve food for her.
“I work from home. I can go to the office twice a week. Alexis, all I want is to take care of you. And if we sleep together at night, it will be easier for me to attend to your needs."
He explained it lightly.
Alexis continued to sip her soup quietly. Then, a faint smile appeared on her lips as she paused. “Leonel, are you more interested in taking care of me or sleeping with me?"
Leonel's eyes were keen. "Do you really want to find out?"
Alexis knew she was better of not knowing.
She ate in silence, ignoring Leonel's watchful gaze.
Once she finished, she looked up. "Why aren't you eating?"
Leonel, who had been about to clear the tray, paused; his fingers twitched. He turned to her slowly. “Alexis, do you still care about me?"
Perhaps the nourishing soup had revived her, for her cheeks were flush with color.
"It's just small talk," she replied casually. "We're stuck together for 60 days, aren't we? Or would you prefer I stay distant? I can be cold if that's what you want."
No sooner had she spoken than he enveloped her in his arms.
Leonel embraced her tightly, his head bowed to rest against hers, his lips brushing the back of her neck. It was a protective gesture, reminiscent of their wedding vows.
“Alexis, I will protect you. You won't have to endure hardship anymore. I'll help you carry the load. From now on, you are Mrs. Douglas."
But their love soured, and they divorced. The Exceed Group, once a symbol of their union, became Alexis' burden. Leonel had failed to keep his wedding vows.
He failed to make Alexis happy.
Their marriage later felt like a prison and Alexis, once vibrant and carefree, had lost her spark.
People said she resembled Waylen, but Leonel knew she was more like Rena.
Leonel's voice shook with emotion. “It's all my fault. Please, Alexis, give me another chance. I'll be the husband and father you deserve.”
After his plea, he hugged her tighter, so much that it pained her.
