Chapter: 4290
Inside, Rena looked at her daughter and whispered, "He's here for you."
Alexis nodded and went to open the door.
Immediately, a faint smell of tobacco hit her nose. Though it was not a very strong smell, but it was not something that could be ignored.
Alexis was taken aback by surprise.
She knew for a fact that Leonel had all but quit smoking, so why was he reeking of the smell of tobacco?
"How're things here?" Leonel asked her. "They will soon serve the food."
"Almost done," Alexis replied.
Neither of them said anything more. Leonel went inside and proceeded to help Rena with setting the table. Since he grew up around Rena and Waylen, he was quite familiar with their habits. Though they were not as close as before, they still allowed him to help them if he wanted to.
When they had finished arranging everything, Rena looked at the blue vase in the middle of the table.
She alone knew that this was the same vase that was in her apartment many years ago. She had bought it after she and Waylen became intimate for the first time. Later on, she sold the vase when they broke up, but Waylen found it and brought it back.
After so many years, the blue vase was still there in the house.
It was older than all of their adult children.
After staring at the vase for a long while, Rena said to Leonel, "Go tell them to serve the meal."
Throughout the duration of the meal, the dining area was quite Lively.
Perhaps Waylen feared that Marcus and Leonel would fight again, that was why he had not invited Marcus. Hence, there was peace and happiness at the table. After the meal, Waylen wanted to play chess, and Leonel offered to join him. At the end, they played two rounds.
Since the car accident, Waylen had become weaker.
Hence, he lost both rounds of the game.
Looking at the chessboard, he shook his head and sighed. “I'm old. It's now the time of the young folks like you," he remarked.
“It's because you went easy on me, Dad," Leonel chuckled as he put the chessmen back on the board.
But Waylen patted him on the shoulder and said, "I did not really want to go easy on you, but my strength did not allow me."
