Chapter: 4319
Leonel returned her kisses with affection, the unique scent of his baby girl stirring something deep within him. After a moment, he turned to Alexis, his tone calm and somewhat indifferent. "Why did you come back suddenly?"
With a faint smile, Alexis responded, "There's some business at the firm, and I actually got a little homesick after being away for so long."
“WiLL you stay for long?" Leonel asked.
“I suppose so," Alexis replied succinctly.
Leonel seemed reluctant to let go of Cordelia, holding her close. It was then that Alexis noticed he was almost completely leaning on the car for support. Glancing at the wheelchair again, she asked with a hint of concern, "Your legs... What happened?"
Leonel followed her gaze down to his legs, pausing for a moment before meeting her eyes again.
“The other day, I had some seafood that triggered my gout. It's nothing serious. Sometimes it gets painful and I find it comfortable to sit in the wheelchair, you know! But, really, I didn't expect to bump into you like this. It's quite embarrassing."
Just then, the driver exited the car and chimed in, "Yes, it's true! I've told Mr. Douglas more than once that he should ease up on the alcohol. After all, he's a prominent figure in society. But he never takes my advice seriously..."
With a faint smile, Leonel said, “Well, put away the wheelchair."
As the driver complied, Leonel tenderly kissed Cordelia once more before addressing Alexis, "I must rush to a business meeting soon, so I can't take you home myself. I'll come to pick up the kids some other day, if that's convenient for you."
He maintained a polite and formal tone as he spoke.
“Sure thing," Alexis said, keeping her tone light but professional.
Leonel hesitated to hand little Cordelia back to her, lingering a moment with one more gentle kiss on the cheek.
Cordelia wasn't having any of it, though. Once back in Alexis' arms, she pouted, visibly upset about leaving her dad.
Seeing her reaction, Leonel couldn't help but smile and tease. "Wow, someone's got a bit of a temper, huh?" His voice was light, trying to coax a smile from the little one.
Cordelia responded by burying her face in Alexis' shoulder, pointedly ignoring Leonel.
Leonel watched the exchange, a mix of amusement and a touch of sadness in his eyes. After a moment, he turned back to Alexis.
“She's amazing, Alexis. You've really done a great job with her," he complimented sincerely.
Their conversation was surprisingly Lengthy for two people who had decided to go their separate ways.
Knowing Leonel probably had places to be, Alexis took the initiative to end their encounter. "My ride's here," she pointed out, gesturing towards the waiting car. “If you want to see the kids, just give me a call, okay?"
