Chapter: 4321
He knew Alexis had always appreciated beauty, and the thought of her seeing his scars filled him with dread. He imagined her shock and the potential nightmares that might follow such a sight.
Resolved, Leonel decided then and there-he would never allow Alexis to see these scars.
Leonel felt pretty low. He was dwelling on Alexis constantly. He felt unworthy of her anymore, yet he still missed her like crazy.
He hadn't seen Alexis much lately, just occasional glimpses from video calls with Cordelia.
He tried to remember how he had managed without her while he first went abroad.
Late nights found him lost in thought, propped up on the bed.
He grabbed his phone after some hesitation, dialing Alexis’ number at last.
She picked up after a few rings.
Alexis, fresh from a shower, was lounging in a cozy robe on the bed.
Cordelia lay beside her, contently sucking on her milk bottle.
Alexis gently patted the little one's back.
She seemed more at ease these days, better than she had been six months back.
She had grown calmer and more patient over time.
Alexis, with a hint of hoarseness, asked, "What's up, Leonel?"
His emotions surged hearing her voice. "We didn't talk much at the airport today. How have you been?" he asked softly. “How is your health?"
Having seen Alexis at the airport, he knew he had made the right call letting her go.
She had looked great without him.
Alexis paused before replying, "ALL is good here! And you? How's the gout? You should get some treatment if it's still bothering you."
Upon hearing her words, a lump formed in Leonel's throat.
Even though they were separated now, they could still talk calmly; it seemed she still cared.
