Chapter: 4404
His throat tightened at the thought, but he resisted the urge to go in. Instead, he placed the clothes on the king-sized bed, making sure she would see them when she came out.

He went downstairs and asked the servant to make some ginger tea for Alexis.

The servant replied, "I've already made some. Ginger tea helps warm you up in this kind of weather. Don't worry, Mr. Douglas."

Leonel nodded and returned to his bedroom.

The room was neat and tidy, thanks to the servants. He sat on the sofa, lost in thought as he touched his lips, pondering recent events.

After some time, he smiled vaguely.

He showered and lay in bed but found sleep elusive. With Alexis in the same house, the air felt sweeter to him.

He tossed and turned restlessly.

In the darkness, he listened to the relentless rain outside, the sounds of the servant moving about, and the occasional creak of doors opening and closing... It was all because of Alexis.

He quietly longed for her.

About an hour later, there was an urgent knock on his door. The servant announced, "Mr. Douglas, you need to come see this. Miss Fowler might have a fever; her forehead feels very hot."

A sense of dread filled Leonel.

He quickly got out of bed and followed the servant to the guest room, where a single bedside lamp cast a dim glow. Alexis lay quietly on the bed, her long hair fanned out on the pillow.

Her eyes were closed, and her cheeks had a faint blush.

She was visibly uncomfortable.

Leonel sat down beside her and gently touched her forehead. She was indeed burning up.

He pulled his hand back and instructed the servant, "Please get Dr. Glyn and fetch the rubbing alcohol from the medicine cabinet."

The servant rushed off to comply.

Just then, Alexis stirred.

She opened her eyes slightly, looking frail and barely awake, her discomfort evident. Her hand weakly reached out and clasped Leonel's finger.
