Chapter: 4482
Laura sensed Cecilia had more on her mind.
True enough, while enjoying the tea, Cecilia showed Laura several photographs of potential suitors and explained their backgrounds.
Finally, she asked, “Laura, which one do you think is the most suitable for Olivia?"
Laura was simple and typically refrained from making major decisions, but she cared deeply for Olivia, the family's darling.
In private, Laura's husband, Edwin, would also discuss Olivia's matters with her, so Laura was informed about Raphael.
Upon Cecilia's request, Laura glanced at the photos as a gesture of respect. Eventually, she whispered, "None of them hold a candle to Mr. Jones in looks."
Cecilia was momentarily at a loss for words.
Cecilia gazed at her daughter-in-law for a long while before sighing deeply. "Yes, that man is certainly handsome, or Olivia wouldn't have been so taken with him in the first place. However, they are not meant to be together. I don't want my baby girl to marry into a family like that."
Cecilia treated Laura like her own daughter and shared her concerns openly.
"Edwin has just talked to us about it. I remember the past too. Raphael's mother was deserving of some sympathy back then, but she is clearly not the most accommodating person. I think Olivia's breakup with Raphael was influenced partly by his mother's interference."
Laura nodded in agreement. “That's what Edwin believes too."
After saying this, Laura looked up at Cecilia thoughtfully.
Laura's background was less than prestigious, which might make others look at her unfavorably. However, Edwin's mother, Cecilia, always treated Laura with nothing but kindness. She offered Laura the same opportunities and comforts that Olivia enjoyed. Over the years, this place had truly become Laura's home.
Feeling Laura's intense gaze, Cecilia found it too much to bear. She stood up and cleared her throat, saying, “It's getting late. You should head to bed soon."
Laura nodded in agreement.
She waited for Cecilia to leave before she called someone to tidy up the area. Then, Laura returned to her own room. By the time she got back, Edwin had already showered and changed into his PJs. He was reclining against the headboard with a book, clearly waiting for her.
Laura blushed.
He was usually too caught up to make time for sex, but when the holidays rolled around, she knew she'd never feel neglected.
He would be off work for about 20 days for his annual vacation.
He'd make love to her at least 50 times in these 20 days. Sometimes she marveled at his boundless energy in his 30s.
