Chapter: 4784
But one particular person applied for it caught his attention. It was Raphael!
Edwin had browsed through the tender document. From what he saw, Raphael's firm did not meet his requirements, and the risk involved was a bit high if they worked with Raphael. Though the project was not much of a big deal to Evans Group, Edwin still couldn't make up his mind whether or not he should let Raphael have it.
He had been thinking about it all through the morning.
Meanwhile, after drinking the medicine, Leyla turned around and asked for a hug. Rather than eat the candy, she just wanted to stay in Edwin's arms.
So she buried her delicate face in his embrace.
Edwin couldn't help but notice how adorable she Looked.
The sight of his niece softened his heart. He lowered his head to kiss her on the forehead before murmuring to himself, "For the sake of Leyla."
With the child still in his arms, he dialed a number. As soon as his assistant answered the phone, he instructed in a calm voice, “Let Raphael have the project. But don't let him know that it was my idea to let him have it."
The assistant was stunned when she heard this. Apparently, she had not expected Edwin to make such a decision.
“That's all," Edwin added and hung up the phone. Then he picked Leyla and carried her upstairs.
The little girl had always Liked to spend time with Edwin.
At dusk, Raphael got a message. Evans Group had agreed to assign the project to him.
He was so surprised when he saw the message that he stared at the screen for a long time in disbelief. Perhaps the reason Edwin had chosen him was because of Leyla.
If it was in the past, he would have turned down such a gesture of almost pity.
But things were different now. He had two kids to raise. Since he wanted to make a comeback as soon as possible, he had no choice but to accept Edwin's help. He couldn't afford to be picky at this time, unless he was willing to depend on Elissa, which would make him feel even more ashamed of himself.
Getting up, he went over to the kitchen to have a smoke.
Afterwards, he went to join Elissa in the living room. “There's good news!" he announced excitedly. “I got a new project. After repairing the apartment, I'll take you to a fancy restaurant so we can have a big meal to celebrate! Well, I'll be quite busy in the next couple months."
Then he turned to Brantley and told him, "Make sure to take good care of your sister and her baby while I'm at work."
The little boy's eyes lit up instantly.
Then he turned to look at Elissa earnestly, as if he was expecting her to say something.
But Elissa just got up and left.
Brantley's head drooped in disappointment.
“Cheer up, young man!" Raphael patted him on the shoulder. “This is definitely a new chapter in your life, but it will take some time for you to get used to it. You just have to be patient, okay?"
But Brantley was too young to understand exactly what he meant by this.
