Chapter: 250
Maggie instinctively pulled away and said, "I don't have a fever. It might be premenstrual symptoms, just a slight stomachache."
Lloyd didn't inquire further but embraced her.
“I'm so tired, Maggie."
A faint scent of women's perfume reached her nose.
Maggie freed herself from his grasp, suppressed her emotions, and asked, "Why do you smell like women's perfume?"
Lloyd ducked his head and took a whiff of his shirt, looking guilty
“Really? Oh, I remember now. I met up with a few clients, and one of them had a female companion. We might have stood a bit closer when I proposed a toast to them."
In truth, however, he had been with Yana just now. The perfume was hers.
But he was certain that Maggie trusted him implicitly. She would definitely believe whatever he chose to tell her.
Lloyd looked up to find that Maggie had gone pale. He reached out and squeezed his shoulder.
“Maggie, our company's Location has finally been settled. I managed to secure some clients, too. We just need to find an auspicious date, and we can get the business rolling. As for you, just keep our home clean and comfortable. I swear you'll live a well-off life in the future."
What a tempting promise, indeed!
If it had been in the past, Maggie would be over the moon with this prospect.
But now, she could barely tell whether her boyfriend was telling her the truth or not.
Maggie couldn't alert him, so she mustered the brightest smile she could.
"Well, you must be tired. Go and take a shower."
"Alright."
Lloyd knew Maggie would believe him.
He smiled to himself as he unbuttoned his shirt and padded into the bathroom.
“Oh, by the way, our rent is almost due. The Landlord called earlier to remind me. Maggie, you'll cover it, right? Once I make enough money I'll see to it that you can have whatever you want."
Maggie's hands clenched into fists. She said nothing and went straight to the kitchen.
If Lloyd betrayed her, why would she continue to support him financially?
