Chapter: 1125
Everyone hoped their son could find a girlfriend from a family of similar social standing.
When Claire learned about Marnie's humble background, she was a Little disappointed.
Marnie came from a modest family. Her parents held regular jobs, and she had two younger sisters and a younger brother, all requiring funds for their education. Additionally, her grandparents were elderly and frequently fell ill, while her uncle had health issues that required hospitalization.
In summary, her family faced financial constraints. Due to these circumstances, Marnie dropped out of middle school and worked as a salesperson in a shopping mall.
Sergio was significantly wealthier than Marnie.
Fortunately, Claire wasn't overly fixated on social status. She recognized that Sergio was dedicated to his studies and might have difficulty finding love, so she accepted Marnie. Claire thought Marnie must have something that Sergio liked. Otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen her to be his girlfriend.
Two days ago, curious about her son's girlfriend, Claire invited a few affluent female friends to join her for a shopping outing. Together, they visited the clothing boutique where Marnie was employed.
There were other customers already in the shop.
Two high school girls dressed in plain clothes were trying on outfits. Marnie appeared disinterested in them and kept glancing at the door. However, when Claire and her well-dressed friends entered, Marnie's expression suddenly brightened with enthusiasm. Marnie left the girls and hurried over to greet Claire's group with a warm smile, eagerly showcasing the clothing to them.
Claire couldn't hide her dissatisfaction with Marnie’s disregard for the two girls.
Unaware of Claire's reaction, Marnie focused on pleasing Claire and Claire's companions as best she could.
When Claire wandered through the store with her back turned, she heard a dispute arise between Marnie and the two girls.
The girls wanted to try on another size and sought out Marnie, who had been assisting them. However, the situation escalated into an argument.
Marnie became impatient with them and rudely remarked, “If you can't afford them, don't bother trying them on!"
One of the girls was sensitive. Her face flushed instantly. The other was furious and declared her intent to file a complaint against Marnie.
After the altercation, Marnie's demeanor turned arrogant, and she challenged those girls, saying, “Go ahead, file a grievance against me! Do you know who my boyfriend is? I don't give a toss about your complaint!"
Claire's expression darkened.
At that moment, she felt a profound sense of embarrassment.
As Claire listened to Marnie's words, panic began to set in. Claire worried that her wealthy friends might discover Marnie was talking about Sergio. Claire quickly intervened, diffusing the situation and helping the girls out.
Marnie projected a sense of self-importance through her connections but seemed subdued in the presence of Claire and the other affluent ladies.
