Chapter: 1968
Jennie nodded in agreement.
At that moment, Kaleb gave Lance a brief look, huffed, and turned his attention to Jennie. He gazed at Jennie affectionately with his blue eyes. “Jennie, are you sure you don't want to return to Philade with me?"
Lance was stunned by Kaleb's unusual tender tone and put on a mocking smile.
Kaleb had come all the way here, but upon seeing his granddaughter for the first time, his heart softened. Jennie had the intelligence, charm, and language skills that reminded him of his wife. No wonder Jennie was the child of the Wilson family.
Communication brought people closer.
Had Jennie grasped what kind of person Kaleb was, she might have been scared of him, and Kaleb wouldn't have felt such affection for her.
Interestingly, Keilani didn't share Kaleb's or Zandra‘s traits, either in looks or intellect.
Decades ago, both Kaleb and Zandra had attended an esteemed university. Their peers had become researchers, professors, politicians, or had grown wealthy. Even Lance, despite having gone missing at a tender age, had thrived in challenging circumstances. It seemed Keilani was quite the exception.
Nevertheless, Keilani was still Kaleb's cherished daughter, now enduring hardship in prison. With this in mind, Kaleb gave Lance a stern look.
"I'm sorry, grandpa," Jennie said as she shook her head. "I can't go with you. But if you miss me, you're welcome to visit me in Mathias anytime."
Jennie knew who was kind to her and who wasn't. Kaleb clearly had a fondness for her, which was why she left the kindergarten with him, yet she didn't want to part ways with Tyrone and Sabrina.
“But, Jennie, your grandma, your mom, your uncle, and I all love you deeply," Kaleb argued.
“My dad loves me dearly. He was already nice to me even before he found out I was his daughter," Jennie replied.
Kaleb had strong negative feelings toward Tyrone due to what he had gathered about Keilani's past with Tyrone. Years back, Tyrone had impregnated his daughter out of wedlock, and she ended up giving birth to the child on her own. Now, she was infatuated with Tyrone and had even committed a crime just for being with him, ending up in trouble with the Law.
Had it not for Royce's revelation of Tyrone's having transferred some of his shares to Jennie to ensure a carefree life ahead, Kaleb vowed to make Tyrone's life miserably.
Kaleb felt he was being lenient with the Blakely family by not stirring up issues. He didn't wish to relinquish his granddaughter's custody. He pointed at Lance and asked, "What's your opinion of your uncle?"
Jennie looked up at Lance.
Lance, looking into her innocent eyes, realized she didn't grasp Kaleb's implication.
“My uncle is a good person." Jennie smiled.
To Jennie, Lance was charming and wealthy while his sister, Keilani, was out of her mind.
