Chapter: 1970
"Don't mind him, Jennie. He'll order if he's hungry," Kaleb remarked as he passed the menu back to his secretary, Allen.
Allen quickly got on the phone to urge the order.
Lance, accustomed to such interactions, offered Jennie a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, really."
“Alright.” Jennie nodded, giving Kaleb a thoughtful look.
“What's on your mind, Jennie?" Kaleb inquired.
Jennie flashed a smile. “Grandpa, you seem to have a really impressive talent."
“Oh? What might that be?" Kaleb's curiosity was piqued.
“Changing your expression." Jennie articulated these words in her mother tongue.
Lance caught on to Jennie's meaning right away. As his eyes met Kaleb's, he subtly stifled his smile.
Kaleb had once learned Zandra's language to woo her. However, since Zandra mostly communicated in Kaleb's language after moving to his country, their conversations largely occurred in his language, leading Kaleb to somewhat forget her native tongue.
It took Kaleb a moment to grasp Jennie's jest. Jennie was playfully teasing him! Yet, he wasn't upset. Instead, he admired her cleverness, bravery, humor, and perceptiveness.
Kaleb gave a resigned smile. “You're quite bold to tease your grandpa like that!"
Jennie grinned slyly.
Shortly after, the hotel served dinner, arranging the dishes neatly on the table.
Jennie grabbed a tart and handed it to Kaleb. "Here you are. Grandpa, try a tart."
“Thanks, Jennie, you're always so thoughtful," Kaleb replied with a warm smile. “But don't just take care of me. Make sure to eat as well."
“Grandpa, this salad tastes amazing. You've got to try it... And this cheese is incredibly flavorful. Grandpa, have a taste."
Having silently heard Jennie's exchange with Kaleb, Lance was at a loss for words. He finally understood why Tyrone was willing to face the prospect of breaking up with Sabrina just to keep his little girl by his side.
During dinner, Kaleb was completely delighted by his granddaughter, his smile never leaving his face.
Allen was quietly surprised. As the leader of the Wilson family, Kaleb was known for his strict and determined nature, showing his softer side only around his wife and Keilani. Even Lance, the son he found back later in life, couldn't make Kaleb smile Like that.
