Chapter: 2036
He dashed upstairs and returned in no more than two minutes, clutching a black bag. “Let's go."
Curious, Bettie couldn't help but inquire, "What's in the bag?"
“Wedding candies," Lance revealed with a shake of the bag. “They're for our neighbors."
Bettie found herself at a loss for words.
As they strolled through the neighborhood, Lance would warmly greet each neighbor they encountered, offering them a piece of candy. It was his way of sharing their joy, announcing their union to the world.
The community was affluent and welcoming, eager to make new friends.
As they accepted the wedding candies, everyone warmly declared the couple “a perfect match" and showered them with well-wishes.
Bettie, skilled in the art of pretense, managed only an awkward smile in response.
“Let's head home," she suggested quietly.
“But I still have candies left."
Her frustration was evident as she clenched her teeth. “How many did you bring?" she questioned.
"Not too many."
“Humph!" Bettie huffed.
After distributing the wedding candies, they returned home and each retired to their respective rooms for some rest.
Three days later, they visited Bettie's parents.
Corless and Amirah, treating Lance and Bettie with great affection, made them feel at home.
While Corless engaged Lance in conversation in the living room, Amirah seized the opportunity for a private chat with Bettie. “How are things going between you and Lance?" she inquired gently.
“Mom, we're doing well, He treats me kindly," Bettie responded.
“That's good to hear." Amirah nodded and then paused before continuing, “By the way, how long is Lance off work?"
"I didn't asked," Bettie admitted.
