Chapter: 2055
Then, they stumbled upon a newlywed couple capturing their wedding moments amid the scenic backdrop.
As they strolled, Bettie snapped lots of photos on her phone, some of scenery and selfies, others of herself which Lance had taken.
At a quaint building, Lance asked an elderly lady to take their picture.
Spotting the wedding ring on Lance's finger, the elderly lady gushed as she snapped photos for them. "You two are made for each other! Say cheese!"
Lance grinned, but Bettie set her straight. “Actually, we're not..."
Mid-sentence, it hit her, they were “married,” albeit for show, and she wasn't used to it.
Lance squeezed her hand, murmuring, “Why bother letting people know you're not really my wife?"
Bettie was at a loss for words.
The elderly lady sensed something amiss about Bettie's reaction. As she handed back Lance's phone, she noticed Bettie's bare finger.
She then assumed that Bettie was a mistress.
Watching the elderly lady's receding figure, Bettie pondered the lady's disdainful gaze. Then, she glanced at Lance, arching an eyebrow with a smirk. "Does your wife know you're on a ‘business trip' with me?"
What an actress. Lance chuckled. "Nah, how could I clue her in, babe?"
Bettie raised her voice. “Oh, you! When are you going to divorce your wife and marry me?"
Lance's expression remained unchanged and remarked, "You know, I'm due for a promotion soon so I still need my father-in-law's backing. I'll get you some jewelry, babe."
"Do you think I'm after your money? I just want us to be together openly."
"I swear, once I secure the promotion, I'll divorce her."
Onlookers were left dumbfounded as they eavesdropped on the spectacle.
After sightseeing, Bettie and Lance stumbled upon a local restaurant for dinner. There they ordered spicy crayfish, scallops, oysters, and other seafood.
The restaurant's specialty fruit wine was sweet and it was a unique treat.
Bettie's forehead glistened with sweat and her lips tinged red as if she'd applied lipstick. This enhanced her beauty.
