Chapter: 1017
Though it was not explicit, its underlying tension got her heart racing.
Claudia had to give it to the author. This was way more interesting than any of the explicit content Aurora had shared with her.
Just as she was deeply engrossed in the book, a deep male voice broke her concentration.
"What are you looking at, Claudia?"
His question left her startled.
Caught off guard, Claudia felt like a student found reading something other than the textbook during class. Her phone slipped from her hand and landed on the bed.
She picked up the phone, quickly exited the novel and looked nervously at the man beside her.
“I was just reading a novel."
“Reading on a phone isn't good for your eyes. I'll have Jackson get you a Kindle," Bennett suggested.
Feeling awkward, Claudia nodded.
"Alright."
“What were you reading? Is it anything good?" Bennett inquired.
“I... It's a romantic novel Aurora sent me. I wouldn't say it's spectacular, but it's good enough for killing time," she answered then whispered to herself, “Sorry, author, I lied. It's really good."
Claudia fidgeted and reached for the quilt beside her.
Lying was clearly not her strong suit.
Bennett noticed her hesitation.
"You seemed pretty engrossed for a book you claim isn't spectacular."
Since she was exposed, Claudia felt her cheeks redden.
"Well, there was an interesting part, okay?"
Fearing further questions, she quickly added, “It's past nine-thirty.
Time to turn off the light and sleep!"
With a raised eyebrow, Bennett complied and switched off the Light.
As the room plunged into darkness, Claudia's eyes struggled to adjust.
She could barely make out anything.
