Chapter: 108
A wave of guilt washed over Claudia as she glanced at Bennett.
His calm reply was, "I appreciate it."
“You... You're welcome."
Standing upright, the woodsy aroma from Bennett became less intense, and Claudia's racing heart found its pace.
Luckily, Bennett didn't discover any issues.
Claudia let out a sigh of relief, and as she observed his collar, she felt a wave of relaxation wash over her.
Bennett's lips curled, holding back a smile at Claudia's bright eyes. “Time to head home."
"Alright."
Bennett took position behind her, guiding her wheelchair out of the room.
As they exited the elevator, Bennett was greeted by a familiar face in business.
“Mr. Dreskin, what a fortuitous encounter! And who might this be?" Looking down at Claudia in her wheelchair, Bennett introduced, "This is Claudia, my wife."
Usually, introductions would be limited to "my wife."
But Bennett's addition of Claudia‘s name brought immediate recognition to his acquaintance. "A pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Dreskin. I've heard much about you.”
“Honey, this is Mr. Martel."
Beaming, Claudia responded, "A pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Martel.” Mr. Martel, being tactful, engaged in brief pleasantries before moving along with his day.
Upon exiting the hotel, Bennett navigated Claudia's wheelchair to the car where their driver was waiting.
“Mr. Dreskin, Mrs. Dreskin."
Expressing gratitude, Claudia rose from her wheelchair and slid into the car.
Bennett quickly got into the car, and Claudia caught a faint whiff of a wooden fragrance emanating from him.
Claudia found herself conflicted as she recalled Mr. Martel's reaction and considered Bennett.
That was his business partner, and he had introduced her so formally. What would happen when they separated?
Pondering these thoughts gave Claudia a headache. She assumed that aside from those interested in gossip, few would even notice their marital status, much Like Mr. Martel.
