Chapter: 123
Despite being a phone conversation, Claudia felt a heavy, unspoken pressure. She didn't muster the courage to object and instead said, “Not at all. On work days, people usually Leave at eight, right?"
“In that case, I'll be there at eight."
Claudia was speechless.
Noting her silence, Bennett probed, "Is there an issue?"
Claudia couldn't help but feel intimidated. She forced a smile and responded, "No, not at all. See you tomorrow."
“See you tomorrow, my dear."
Help! Why was he addressing her so intimately?
Yet Claudia didn't have the courage to correct him. A second later, she hastily ended the call.
Eight o'clock?!
Why did Bennett get up so early on weekend?
Despite her grumbling, Claudia promptly dried her hair, set an alarm, and turned in for the night.
The last thing she wanted was to still be in bed when Bennett arrived the next morning.
Claudia had an intriguing dream that night, where she herself was a rabbit living in a dense forest. One day, while searching for food, she came across a wolf.
Terrified, she bolted. But no matter how fast she ran, the wolf always seemed to be just a step behind.
Out of strength, she gave up running and braced herself for the inevitable.
The wolf leapt towards her, jaws wide open, and she instinctively closed her eyes.
Just as she assumed she was about to be devoured, she felt a strange warmth on her face. She cautiously opened her eyes to find the wolf gently licking her.
Claudia woke up, realizing it was all a dream.
The warmth she had felt on her face was simply drool.
The incessant ringing of the alarm was quickly silenced by Claudia's hand.
The room was peaceful once again. Still thinking about the dream, she subconsciously touched her face. What a bizarre dream!
Claudia's alarm clock buzzed to life at seven o'clock. The previous evening, Bennett had promised to swing by at eight in the morning.
