Chapter: 1290
Bennett glanced at Xavier and smoothly changed the subject. "Mr. Hinchcliffe, don't you like the dishes?"
Xavier barely had a bite to eat or anything to drink.
"I've had a stomachache recently. I don't have a good appetite. The dishes, however, are delicious."
As Claudia finished the last spoonful of soup, she announced, “Well, I'm full."
Although she wasn't genuinely satiated yet and despite the delicious food, Claudia was eager to bring the awkward lunch to a swift conclusion and leave the restaurant as soon as possible.
"It seems you also don't have a good appetite today, Claudia," said Xavier.
Claudia glanced at Xavier, annoyed by his perception. Why did he have to be so observant?
She hid her annoyance well and smiled politely. “Not at all. I had a big breakfast."
With a smile, Xavier addressed Bennett. "The encounter between Claudia and me is quite interesting. Did she tell you?"
“It's indeed quite interesting. If it were someone else, you and your friend might have ended up at the police station, Mr. Hinchcliffe."
Xavier brushed off the criticism, saying, “You're right. My friend was perhaps a little heartless. But he acted rashly and rudely because he was worried about me. But it also proved that Claudia and I were destined to meet."
He picked up his glass of juice and proposed, “Claudia, can we drink a toast to each other?"
Claudia had no choice but to oblige. She raised her glass of juice and clinked her glass with his.
"I haven't had the opportunity to thank you, and I wanted to express my gratitude, Claudia. If you hadn't taken me to the hospital that night, I might not have been here to enjoy this lovely meal with you today. So, please don't worry about it. These two meals are no big deal to me. They're just a small token of appreciation."
Turning to Bennett, Xavier added, “Thank you for the lunch today, but I don't have a good appetite. I apologize if it may disappoint you."
With that, Xavier raised his glass to Bennett.
Bennett narrowed his eyes slightly as he watched Xavier drink from his glass, sipping his own juice after Xavier finished.
Claudia found the situation peculiar but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.
Following his remarks, Xavier suggested leaving.
Bennett nodded and glanced at Claudia. "Do you want to go to the bathroom to freshen up?"
“No...Err, yes, I want to go to the bathroom."
Although she had no real need, her words changed when she encountered Bennett's intense gaze.
"Okay, well, I'll go to the bathroom. Wait for me here."
The washroom was just a short stroll away, a few meters from the private room.
