Chapter: 1331
Guided indoors, Claudia faced the brisk wind as she exited the car, yet the hotel's warmth swiftly embraced her upon entry.
As they entered the already commenced party, the organizer's opening remarks echoed throughout the hall.
Dimming lights surrounded them, guiding Claudia and Bennett as the receptionist ushered them inside.
The organizer's words held little significance; mere preliminaries paved the way for a night of enjoyment.
Suddenly, lights flooded the venue.
Claudia squinted against the sudden brilliance.
Just as her eyes adapted to the light, the dinner party's host approached, extending greetings to Bennett.
"Mr. and Mrs. Dreskin."
"Hello," Bennett replied with a slight nod.
Claudia wore a smile as she exchanged pleasantries with the host.
After a short chat with the couple, the host discreetly departed.
Bennett's presence at such gatherings was a rarity. And soon a swarm of well-wishers surrounded him, flinging greetings and handshakes around.
By his side, Claudia responded with a strained smile.
Seeing her discomfort, Bennett led her to a quieter corner.
Someone was still trying to say hello to him on the way. Bennett, expressionless, took Claudia's hand and brushed past them.
This made any other person who had an intention to flock around Bennett withdraw.
“Wle'll go home soon," Bennett said soothingly, handing her a glass of juice.
Embarrassed, Claudia asked, “Isn't it too early?"
He shrugged. “I'm only here because you agreed to come."
Claudia sipped her juice and said, “Well... I thought you enjoy occasions like this."
She had thought the event held significance in his professional and social life, and that was why she had agreed to come.
"No," he replied, leaning forward and smoothing her hair tenderly, not caring whether anyone was watching.
"There are so many people here," Claudia whispered, blushing and taking his hand.
Bennett chuckled. "What law says I can't smooth my wife's hair?"
