Chapter: 247
"Oh, dear," Bennett uttered, Looking even more worried. "Why was your mind somewhere else? What were you thinking about?"
Claudia took a sip of water and blurted out, "The one hundred million dollars."
She pursed her lips, surprised by her lack of hesitation.
It took her great restraint not to slap her head now. Something was wrong with her. Perhaps the mention of one hundred million dollars had shocked her so much that she was yet to recover. Alas!
With remorse, she glanced at Bennett who had already sat back down and mumbled, "That was a slip of tongue. Sorry..."
“I see," Bennett said in a low voice. Picking up his cutlery, he gestured to her. "Let's continue, shall we?"
“Okay.”
Too embarrassed to make a fool of herself one more time, Claudia buckled up and kept her thoughts in check.
She got right to eating the sumptuous meal in front of her. It could be said that Marcia had magic fingers. The fried fish was insanely delicious. The spareribs were the same. Also, the cold mushroom soup Was enough to remove the greasiness that the summer heat left.
Claudia felt Like dancing as filled her stomach.
Shortly after the conversation, Bennett gently set down his fork. Claudia looked up at him and asked, “Are you full already?"
Her eyebrows were raised in surprise. How could a man of his stature eat so Little?
"Yes."
After taking a final sip of soup, Bennett wiped his mouth and stood up.
“Excuse me. I have to make a phone call. You go ahead and eat.”
"Oh, okay."
As soon as Claudia was alone, she let down her guard. She moved the platter of ribs closer and shoved more chunks in her mouth. She occasionally closed her eyes to savor the taste of all mouthfuls.
Minutes passed before she realized something. She was the only one who ate from the side dishes. Bennett had barely touched them.
Although he drank many spoonfuls of soup, he hadn't eaten the ribs and fish that were served.
What was wrong? Didn't he like the food?
Claudia's suddenly felt a sense of guilt. Just this morning, she had told Marcia that Bennett wasn't a picky eater, so the poor woman had made more than enough for two, thinking that none would be left.
Unfortunately, Bennett was a picky eater after all!
Looking at the side dishes, Claudia's shoulders dropped in helplessness. She hated to waste food.
She sat up and moved more of the plates closer. After a few minutes of stuffing herself, she had no choice but to stand up when she burped twice in a row.
