Chapter: 26
It was a better scenario for Bennett to choose his own wife rather than be beholden to his stepmother's arrangement.
Despite the decline of the Marshall family in recent years, they were renowned for their integrity. Plus, Claudia's grandfather was a famed political figure, keeping Claudia's popularity intact in Linmarsh.
Choosing to marry Claudia was a smart move for Bennett.
Claudia thought it did make sense.
It must have been Bennett's motive.
However, initially, Claudia had seen the marriage as a way to exact revenge on Anthony and Delilah. She felt she should clarify this to Bennett at some point.
Of course, it wasn't the right time yet.
She admitted she could be fiercely competitive and stubborn at times.
As Claudia was deep in thought, her phone screen lit up, jolting her back to reality. She Looked down at Aurora's new message—"By the way, is your father aware that you and Bennett have gotten married?"
The question instantly brought Claudia out of her trance. She had been in a state of elation and confusion all day.
Fighting back against Delilah for the first time had felt great.
However, the aftermath had presented a harsh reality.
Claudia felt a throbbing headache. Even the scathing remarks about Delilah couldn't cheer her up.
She left the living room, idly watching TV as she awaited Jace's return.
Jace returned home at half-past nine, slightly drunk “Dad, are you alright?" Claudia asked, handing him a glass of warm water.
Jace knew what was on his daughter‘s mind. He accepted the glass and downed half of it without uttering a word.
Standing beside him, Claudia grew nervous. She tugged at his shirt hem and whispered, "I'm sorry, Dad."
Jace thought back to the man's words at his office earlier that day and sighed. "I trust you, Claudia!"
Upon hearing this, Claudia's eyes welled up. She was about to explain when Jace, with a serious look on his face, stated, “Henry just called me. He wants us to have a meal with them. Anthony wants to apologize to you, even if it means he has to kneel."
Jace gulped down some more water before stating, “Anthony Lacks character. Even if he grovels before you and asks for forgiveness, I won't allow you to marry him again! Plus, you're already married. Regarding the dinner, I shall..."
"Dad!"
Claudia interrupted abruptly.
