Chapter: 53
Come evening, Jace returned home. Learning about Claudia's intention to cook for him, his face broke into a bright smile. Observing his daughter busily cooking in the kitchen evoked a mix of remorse and satisfaction.
Once the final dish was prepared, Claudia instructed the housemaid to lay it on the table. After washing her hands, she made her way to the dining room.
It had been a considerable span since Jace and Claudia shared a meal.
Jace uncorked a bottle of red wine especially for the occasion. "Care for some, sweetheart?"
“I'LL drink some with you tonight."
Claudia extended her wine glass, into which Jace filled a third with red wine.
The housekeeper and the housemaid retreated, leaving the two of them alone.
In stark contrast to the warm atmosphere in the Marshall household, the Nixon household resembled a frosty cave.
The rumor of Anthony's two-timing had widely permeated the Internet.
Though no one openly admitted the truth, it was evident to the discerning eye that Anthony had betrayed Claudia.
Today, Rachel encountered numerous snide remarks about Anthony during her outing, which left her visibly upset upon return.
As for Henry, despite no one daring to confront him directly, the gossip surrounding the topic was too widespread to avoid. Consequently, he overheard disparaging comments about Anthony from others.
In summary, the Nixons had been turned into a laughingstock due to Anthony's actions.
Everly found herself in dispute over these rumors. Yet, no matter how fiercely she argued, it didn't change the fact that Anthony had rejected Claudia, who hailed from a respectful family, in favor of an obscure woman.
The inviting aroma of the food permeated the dining area, yet none of the Nixons touched their silverware. Evidently, they were awaiting Anthony's arrival.
At the same time...
Just as Anthony exited the garage in his car, he noticed Delilah standing in the twilight.
For the first time, Anthony found himself weary of Delilah. He chose to ignore her, making a show of not seeing her. However, Delilah stood in front of his car to stop him.
The car screeched to a halt.
Onlookers turned their attention to the black Lexus.
Catching sight of Delilah's defiant stance in front of his car, a surge of fury washed over Anthony. Such anger was unfamiliar to him.
He swung the car door open and stepped out. “What? You've got a death wish now?"
