Chapter: 813
Surely Bennett would not return home at noon, right?
Even though she was nervous at the possibility of Bennett seeing her in that state again, Claudia did not try to get up.
So, when she heard someone knocking on the door, her heart almost jumped out of her throat in shock. Immediately, she sat up on the floor.
Then, Marcia announced from outside the door, "Mrs. Dreskin, Lunch will be ready in half an hour."
Claudia let out a long sigh of relief before replying loudly, "I see. Thank you, Marcia!"
She stayed seated on the floor for another five minutes after Marcia departed, and then she got up to take a shower.
After lunch, Claudia spent an hour practicing the piano. By the time afternoon rolled around, she was dead on her feet, so she returned to the bedroom to get some sleep.
It was Friday that day. Bennett could not make it home for dinner because he had to attend an emergency meeting, so Claudia had to eat her meal alone.
She played games with Aurora after supper but felt a twinge of guilt when she remembered the upcoming performance at the end of the month. Soon, Claudia found herself in front of the piano, practicing again.
As of ten o'clock in the evening, Bennett had still not come home.
When Claudia checked her phone, she saw that he had messaged her an hour ago, asking her to go to sleep first.
After nearly four months of marriage, this was the first time Bennett had returned home so late.
He probably had some pressing matters that needed his attention in the company. With that in mind, instead of urging him to come home, she wished him good night and sent him smiley and heart emojis.
She had to get up at seven o'clock tomorrow morning in order to make it to the rehearsals before lunchtime.
At half past eleven in the evening, Bennett exited the conference room with a stony expression on his face. Jackson trailed after him, holding his breath.
The launch of the company's most anticipated new product in the second half of the year was scheduled for the following month. However, three of their test machines suddenly malfunctioned due to overheating.
Bennett did some in-person questioning earlier and learned that the technical department had not fully resolved the issue. However, the launch date was rapidly approaching, and they had to turn in the product, tested or not.
Still, the technical staff tried to defend themselves just now in the conference room, saying that they were close to finding a solution and that the next rollout of the new gadgets would not be affected.
Forget Bennett; even Jackson thought their statements sounded ridiculous.
There were not many people left in the company building at this hour, and the only thing that could be heard in the hallways was the sound of their footsteps.
Bennett returned to his office and grabbed his phone. He was completely expressionless until he saw Claudia's message, at which point his face began to soften.
When Claudia woke up at seven o'clock in the morning, she found Bennett lying next to her, still asleep. She blinked and studied the man's face. Her eyes darted to his lashes.
They were extremely thick and long.
How was that even possible?
