Chapter: 891
Bennett had no intention of talking about Benico in Claudia's presence, but he changed his mind after seeing her worried expression.
“Well, I guess I am a bit upset."
After a brief pause, he continued, "My father's sixtieth birthday is coming up next month."
He was planning to take Claudia to his father's birthday celebration, but Benico had just told him over the phone that he might as well not come if he decided to bring her along.
People would talk behind their backs and speculate that Bennett and Claudia's marriage was fake if she did not attend Benico's birthday party.
Bennett would hate to hear such rumors.
He just said one sentence, but Claudia immediately understood the situation and why the two men were arguing.
Her relationship with Benico was not the best, to say the least. He refused to accept her as his daughter-in-law because he did not Like her “presumptuous" personality before.
Claudia felt some regret as she reflected on her past actions.
She never would have guessed back then that she and Bennett would become a real couple. That was why she also did not consider Benico her father- in-law throughout their previous exchanges.
Claudia bit her lower lip before saying, "Actually, I don't think it will matter that much if I don't come to the party.”
Bennett cupped her jaw and caressed her cheek with his thumb.
“What are you talking about, Mrs. Dreskin?"
Under her scrutiny, Claudia felt like she had said something outrageous.
She looked away from the man to avoid further awkwardness. Much to her relief, she was saved from responding to his question when the doorbell rang.
“Is that our dinner?"
Claudia was about to answer the door.
However, Bennett stopped her and said, "I'll get it."
"Sure."
Claudia did not try to stop him and instead went to the dining room, where she started setting the table.
The sky had begun to darken by the time Bennett and Claudia were done eating.
Bennett still had some important documents to review and had gone to the study after dinner, Claudia had not touched the piano for a while, so she decided to practice for two hours and then go to bed afterward.
She did not bring up the topic of Benico's birthday party again.
Bennett was still in the study when Claudia finished her practice and exited the piano room, She went to the kitchen, peeled and sliced some fruits, placed them on a platter, and delivered it to the study. She then walked out quietly and went to the bedroom.
