Chapter: 930
Claudia gained more fans after the recent motorboat race. The moment they recognized her face in the non-pixelated photos, they immediately defended her on Twitter.
When Claudia decided to visit the restaurant a few days ago, she did not know the whole thing would go viral like this a few days later.
She sighed. The situation was starting to get ridiculous.
The restaurant owner had no idea that Claudia was famous. When he realized that public opinion had shifted in Claudia's favor, he panicked and quickly posted a public apology.
However, the statement did not really sound apologetic. They said that the restaurant had been blackmailed too many times before by unreasonable customers, so they misunderstood Claudia‘'s intention.
Instead of taking responsibility for their actions, they resorted to sadfishing.
Bennett was unmoved by his apology. Shortly after the restaurant's statement was released, the Segarine Group's official account also uploaded a post, saying, “Rumor had it that our chairman's wife blackmailed someone for some pennies. Do you think it's true?"
Bennett immediately shared the post and tagged Claudia's account in the caption.
The public's interest in the issue grew, and there was nothing that could be done to stop it now.
As soon as the restaurant owner read the Segarine Group's post, he began to feel regret.
Claudia stared at her phone with wide eyes. She did not know that Bennett would involve the Segarine Group's official account to clear up the issue. She could not deny that it obtained the desired result, though. The public was on her side now.
She was the wife of the CEO of the Segarine Group. There was no way she would blackmail the owner of a no-name restaurant for a mere four thousand dollars.
Soon, disapproving replies began flooding the comments section of the Segarine Group's official account's post.
"I thought it was absurd, too. Her face was originally blurred in the video, but I could still tell that she was wearing clothes and accessories from high-end brands. It was clear she was from a wealthy family. Four thousand dollars isn't even enough to buy the handbag she was holding. The owner of the restaurant is so ridiculous for saying she blackmailed him."
“This is probably the funniest joke I've heard this year. Imagine claiming that the wife of the CEO of the Segarine Group blackmailed you for money. Oh, I can't."
"It's stupid and so far-fetched, I'm pretty sure not even an absurdist writer can come up with such a ridiculous plot."
“The Segarine Group is now involved. It won't take long before they acquire the restaurant. Seriously, though, why would a CEO's wife blackmail a small restaurant owner? Is he dumb or something?"
After Bennett reposted the Segarine Group's official account's post, people who had negative experiences at the restaurant began uploading their own complaints online.
“The restaurant had only been open for a few days when we dined there last weekend. Out of the six of us who went there, three got upset stomachs. My other two friends didn't have it as bad as I had. While I was at the hospital, my blood pressure dropped to an unsafe level. The doctors got so worried because my condition was worsening, and they almost put me in the ICU. After that, we called the restaurant's hotline, and we were gaslighted into thinking that our stomach problems were due to indigestion and not their food. In the end, they just refunded the money we spent on our meal. This is the receipt from that day.”
"I went there for dinner with my husband on Wednesday, and we both experienced stomachaches the whole night. I didn't suspect that it was their fault because my husband wasn't in as much pain as I was. I must say that the restaurant's service is terrible, though, and the ingredients they used on their food weren't fresh at all."
“I went there on Friday. I didn't really feel anything afterward because I didn't eat much at that time, but my friend got the runs for three days. We didn't give it much thought. We almost forgot about it until the restaurant uploaded the video and claimed that someone tried to blackmail them. When I looked it up, I saw reviews from customers who had upset stomachs after eating at the restaurant. That's how I realized that they don't sell fresh food, which is very wrong for a food establishment. I guess I have to thank the wife of Segarine Group's CEO for dealing with this. She did us a great favor."
As time flew by, more and more unhappy diners voiced their displeasure with the establishment. Soon, FDA had no choice but to put its foot down. In the afternoon, the government shut down the restaurant.
At this point, Claudia and Bennett did not have to do anything else.
Suddenly, Claudia's brows shot up. She had just realized why the restaurant owner uploaded the video in the first place.
