Chapter: 1609
Camila intended to restrain Aldrin, but she refrained.
Outside the room, Aldrin continued escorting Laura. Laura wriggled, querying, “Where are we going? Just spill it."
Suddenly, Aldrin halted and spun around to confront Laura, his eyes fixed on her, silent and intense.
Laura felt a shiver under his scrutinizing gaze. “What's gotten into you?"
"What's gotten into me?" Aldrin's eyes smoldered with anger. “Out of every three words you speak, two relate to Forrest. Your tone's so affectionate that it makes me think you're in love with him. You're not living with him for revenge at all!"
"It's for vengeance!" Laura shot back.
"No, you're misleading me." Aldrin, consumed by anger, was deaf to any argument. He was convinced that Laura had feelings for Forrest.
"Because you've forgotten his wrongdoings. You've fallen for his feigned affection once again."
"I haven't forgotten. I remember his betrayal. I know his mother wanted me dead. My presence in his life now is for payback. Trust me,"
Laura pleaded with him, attempting to win him over.
“Calm down."
Aldrin drew in a few deep breaths.
Only then did he start feeling somewhat better.
His tone softened a bit. "I ran into a bit of trouble today."
"What kind of trouble?" Laura queried.
“I accidentally took someone's life. My mood is pretty downcast right now. I didn't mean to lose my cool. I'm just scared," Aldrin said in a low voice.
Laura attempted to soothe him, speaking softly, “Don't overthink it.
If it was truly accidental, the penalty won't be severe. Plus, you're Camila's brother. Even if she can't pull you out of this, Isaac definitely can."
Aldrin averted his eyes.
He was still in a panic.
