Chapter: 1844
"I'm fine," he assured her.
Laura recognized his dedication. Calling him a workaholic didn't quite fit. His relentless pursuit of work reflected his sense of purpose. To Morrison, solving cases might well be the essence of his existence. She considered that being immersed in her work might serve her well too, offering a reprieve from the troubles that plagued her.
This time, their investigation led them to a karaoke bar, specifically to a VIP room where a woman had been found dead.
As Laura entered the room, she instinctively covered her mouth and nose. Despite her experience with crime scenes, the brutality of this scene struck her profoundly.
She had seen plenty of violence in her past, but the horror of this killing still made her shudder.
Yet, she quickly got a grip on herself.
She opened her toolbox and donned a pair of gloves before she began examining the scene.
The victim was a young woman, breathtakingly beautiful.
It seemed she had been tortured to death.
But pinpointing the exact cause of death would require a closer look.
Laura wasn't bothered by the fact that the victim was female or by the horrifying state of the body. She kept her calm and carefully checked every inch of the victim, not skipping the parts generally regarded as private.
After a detailed check, she said, "Based on what I've seen, it looks like she died from damage to her internal organs, especially severe harm to her reproductive organs."
Morrison chimed in, "Could there be any other reason?"
"I've taken some samples for tests. We'll know more once the lab has a look at them," Laura replied.
"Alright."
“Captain, you've got to see this!" They found a wine bottle covered in blood, shattered.
Morrison took a quick look and instructed, "Continue with the investigation."
Once they had gathered all the evidence, the victim's body was respectfully covered and taken away.
Morrison left two officers behind to handle the questioning, taking the person in charge and the one who had called the police to the station for further inquiry.
On their way back, someone made a joking comment, “Laura, you didn't even flinch seeing that dead body. You've got a lot of strength deep down."
