Chapter: 1942
Annis clenched her fists, meeting his gaze. “but I don't like you anymore."
“Do you even like me? You've always loved me," Alick challenged.
Annis was rendered speechless.
He hadn't been like this before.
He used to be so serious.
She found herself at a loss for words.
Alick dropped his gaze to her hands, saying softly, "When I was comatose, you never left my side. Even facing the possibility I might never wake up, you stayed. That's not something you do unless you really love me so much. So, I believe I can stand by you too. Do you see what I mean?"
Annis feigned indifference. "I just feel sorry for you. I love you so much? Alick, why are you so shameless?"
She got up and started to walk away. "If you don't want to discuss this, we'll leave it here."
"Annis," Alick called out, still seated.
Annis stopped and turned around. “What are you up to?"
"How do you want to discuss this with me?" he asked. He gazed at her intently and asked another question, "Do you think you'll actually be happier if we split?"
Annis admitted, "Well, I'd definitely be less stressed."
“How about this way?" Alick rose to his feet and approached her.
"Tonight, I'm going to sleep with two prostitutes. Will that make you feel any better?"
Annis was at a loss for words.
She bit her lip and replied, "That's not my concern."
Then she started to walk away, but Alick caught her arm. “You said it yourself. We're even now. So why the long face? You don't want me to be with other women, do you?"
"I don't mean that," Annis responded flatly.
Alick challenged her, “Lying isn't a good look on you."
