Chapter: 2061
If both those ideas were wrong, was there a third possibility?
Laura told her, "Sure, there's a third possibility. We need to think bigger. Mr. Garland's death not only casts doubt on your project but also will make others doubt the quality and practicality of the artificial heart. What if someone wanted to sabotage your work? What if they poisoned Mr. Garland to make it look like the artificial heart isn't reliable?"
Camila's eyes widened as the pieces clicked into place.
“I understand!"
“Really? What do you understand?" Laura asked.
“When we were working on the artificial heart, we hit a snag. A doctor, Dr. Lance, helped us out. Meanwhile, a big pharma company, Sun Pharmaceutical Group, also wanted his expertise. They were making artificial hearts too. But their approach was shady—they tried to force him to work for them. I found someone who helped him get out of that mess, and he ended up signing with our hospital."
"Do you think Sun Pharmaceutical Group could be behind this? They wouldn't want your artificial heart to succeed, right?" Laura asked.
Camila nodded. That made a lot of sense.
Back then, by making Rugal terminate the agreement with the Sun Pharmaceutical Group and sign the contract with her, Camila had basically blocked this company's cash cow.
If the artificial heart was a success, it would be a huge win financially.
Camila sprang to her feet. Things had just got serious.
Camila looked really enthusiastic.
Laura grabbed Camila's hand and had her take a seat, saying, “Don't worry. This doesn't involve you."
Camila frowned. “How can I be okay with this? Just for money, can people do whatever they want and end someone's life like it's nothing?"
She quickly realized she'd overreacted and said, "Sorry, I didn't mean to..."
Laura smiled, not the least bit fazed. "It's fine. I get it. I've seen more than you have and it's hard to deal with how cruel people can be."
Her calmness helped Camila settle down.
"We think we know who's behind this. If we can get the proof, you'll be in the clear," Laura explained.
Right as she finished talking, Camila's phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen, her face cool, but she let out a cold laugh.
