Chapter: 2112
Upon returning from the hospital, Camila noticed Annis' absence.

The home's silence was a clear sign. If Annis had been there, the place would have had more life, more signs of her presence.

"I don't think she's returned," Camila remarked.

Isaac gave a confirming nod.

Annis had driven Alick back to his place. As he stepped out of the car, he confessed, "I've had too much to drink, feeling sick."

Annis parked and assisted him inside.

“Rest on the couch," she suggested. "I'll whip up some soup to clear your head."

Alick grasped her hand. “Please, stay here with me."

His words masked the truth.

He wasn't intoxicated. A little wine wouldn't sway him.

He was quite the opposite, able to hold his liquor with ease.

Annis saw through him and called him out. “You're feigning, aren't you?"

Alick's response was a simple, knowing smile.

In a swift motion, he drew Annis close, securing her in a firm embrace.

“I didn't expect you to come to see me," he expressed, genuine surprise in his voice.

Annis averted her gaze, her voice a tender murmur. “Love should be shared, not given unilaterally. I don't want to always be on the receiving end."

Alick leaned in, his chin resting on her shoulder. "I'll talk to Mr. Johnston about taking a break tomorrow. I'm thinking of spending some time with you in Faymoor."

Annis couldn't hide her dismay. "Why would you do that?" She faced him squarely, her tone firm. “Your place is helping Isaac."

"You're so fond of him," Alick observed, a playful edge in his voice.

Annis looked up, affirming, "Yes, he's family in all the ways that count. He recognizes me as such."
