Chapter: 2114
Eventually, they found solace on the sofa, their embrace a silent testament to their mutual support.
“I should return home now," Annis decided after some time.
“It's still early," Alick noted.
Annis glanced at the clock. “It's nearly midnight."
“Don't worry about heading back tonight. It's quite late."
Annis firmly responded, "No, I need to return. I made a promise."
Alick reassured her, "Don't fret over it. Isaac and Camila are seasoned in life's complexities. They understand. Spending one night isn't unusual, especially since we've been discussing future commitments. There's mo issue with an overnight stay. They'll understand."
Annis disagreed, "That's not an option for me." She held a belief that time apart might deepen affections.
The longer they were apart, the more joyous and eager their reunion would be.
"Let me drive you then," Alick offered, though he felt deflated.
“No, thank you," Annis declined, "You've had a drink."
She was set on making the trip alone.
Alick escorted her downstairs, bidding her goodbye with a hesitant wave.
Upon her arrival, Annis attempted a discreet entry, only to find that the household was still awake.
Isaac had finished his evening routine and settled on the couch with financial readings in hand, while Camila was occupied in the kitchen.
Annis was taken aback. “Why are you both still up?"
Isaac lifted his gaze from the magazine, slowly closing it. “It's getting late. Let's head to bed," he advised before making his way to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Camila was still arranging plates in the cupboard.
Isaac queried, "Haven't you finished yet?"
"Almost," she replied, placing the final stack of plates in order before closing the cabinet door and stretching. Her waist ached from the exertion.
