Chapter: 2429
Morrison remained silent, simply taking another sip of wine.
Female forensic experts were rare, and Morrison had respected Laura for her choice from the beginning.
He had soon noticed her meticulous, composed manner at work, her calm unshakable regardless of the circumstances.
At some point, his respect had deepened into affection.
He genuinely cared for her.
"She stands apart," Morrison declared, tilting his head proudly.
"Let's finish this."
Forrest complied, emptying his glass.
Morrison kept the wine flowing.
"If you end up drunk, you're welcome to stay the night," he offered.
"A night at your place?" Forrest responded with a slight smile.
"It's not impossible. There are two rooms and I can make a bed for you. But I'm afraid you won't be able to sleep that way," Morrison said, his smile deep and his tone laced with a hint of ambiguity.
Forrest understood immediately and let out a low curse.
Pouring a glass of wine for Morrison, he said, "Treat her well."
"Sure," Morrison replied.
"I should go now," Forrest announced, standing up.
Morrison nodded in acknowledgement.
As Forrest turned to leave, his silhouette seemed somber and somewhat pitiful.
Morrison remained silent, understanding that in the adult world, comfort was often unspoken, and pain had to be endured alone.
He waved to the waiter and settled the bill, then hailed a taxi home.
