Chapter: 2589
Isaac called Alick to inform him of their departure, suggesting he should prepare if he intended to leave too.
Alone in the room, the memory of Forrest's piercing gaze flickered in her mind. She hurried to the bathroom and scrutinized her reflection.
There, on her neck, were the telltale red marks.
Heat flooded her cheeks.
Annoyance bubbled within her.
Annoyance at Isaac, and more importantly, embarrassment that Forrest had witnessed it.
Suddenly, the cryptic conversation between Isaac and Forrest clicked into place.
She rummaged through her clothes, searching for something with a high collar. Failing to find anything suitable, she settled for a silk scarf, tying it loosely around her neck.
Their departure unfolded without a hitch.
The journey back was anything but dull - Joe remained glued to Annis‘ side Like a shadow.
Even Alick, the rightful husband, couldn't pry him loose.
“She's my wife," Alick pointed out, a touch of exasperation creeping into his voice.
Joe blinked his large, innocent eyes. “But she's also my aunt. Are you closer to her than I am?"
Alick was momentarily speechless.
"Who do you like more, Aunt Annis?" Joe pressed confidently.
Alick watched Annis expectantly.
Annis didn't look at him.
A faint smile touched her lips. “Of course, it's you, silly," she replied to Joe.
"See?" Joe puffed out his chest proudly.
Alick was rendered speechless once again.
