Chapter: 998
“Mr. Johnston, how can I help you?" he asked, Looking everywhere but at Isaac.

Isaac walked closer to him determinedly, scaring Josiah even more.

The office suddenly felt so small and cramped up.

“What's... What's this about?" Josiah managed to let out.

He glanced down and noticed the crumpled piece paper in Isaac's hand. He wasn't sure, but he thought he saw Nelson's name on it.

What was that?

He Looked up at Isaac for the first time and started, "You..

“How did Cathy die?" Isaac asked in an eerily cold voice. Josiah gulped, feeling the pent-up anger emanating from him. Isaac was like a bomb waiting to go off.

Josiah knew he had to say something to save his skin.

The problem was that he didn't know if Isaac had known everything, or how much he had known.

He had no fucking clue!

But Isaac had come to him. That alone already meant he had an idea of something.

Nelson was recuperating abroad, and Camila was safe and sound abroad He was the only one left here and he had to say something.

He took a deep breath and said, “Okay. I guess it's time you knew the truth."

He didn't exactly know where to start, so he stayed silent for a while and tried to choose his words.

"I guess it all began ten years ago when Nelson saved your mother. She was in bad shape when he brought her to me and begged me to save her. I already knew him for so long and I couldn't turn him down after the strong relationship we already shared. After I saved her, Nelson was scared that your mother would go back to the Johnston family once she woke up. He also knew that if she went back there, they would keep hurting her and he didn't want that for her. So, he decided to take away that part of her memory."

Josiah sighed heavily before he continued, “As per his supplications, I operated on her and she forgot her past. After that, he changed her name and took her abroad. After more than ten years with the device in her brain, it began to threaten her life and we had to perform the surgery again. This time though, the operation was different from the last two that we performed. We had to take out the device from her brain. The only inconvenience was that she would regain her memory if we did that."

"This made Nelson hesitate a lot to give his consent for the surgery When he later agreed to it, Cathy had cerebral haemorrhage, and by the time she was sent to the hospital, it was too late. The surgery was worth nothing at that time. So yes, Cathy died. If Nelson had agreed to the operation earlier, she would have still been here. Scared that you would try to kill Nelson, I covered up and made it seem Like she died during surgery, and made sure Camila was one of her doctors."

“I deliberately asked Camila to the operating room that day after I realized that Cathy wouldn't make it. But trust me, Camila gave her all to save Cathy. Sadly, Cathy was already dying and was only grasping at a few thin straws. So, everything Camila did or tried was useless.”

“At the end, Camila didn't agree to help me out with my plan, but she later agreed. Till date, I don't know why she did that. Like I said, I had to hide the truth from you to protect Nelson. So I manipulated Cathy's body. As a doctor, I knew just what to do on her body for the forensic experts to see what I wanted them to see. That was why the autopsy report came back saying that it was an error caused in the operation room."

Josiah looked at Isaac sincerely and said, "There, you have it. I've told you everything. It was to protect my friend, but I know I crossed ethical boundaries I should have never crossed. I am ready to bear the consequences."

Isaac already knew everything Josiah just said.

What he didn't know was that, Camila actually had nothing to do with his mother's death.

Did Camila agree because of the letter from Cathy? She had consented due to the content of Cathy's letter, which expressed a desire for Camila to help save Nelson's life.

So, it was possible that she agreed to take the blame because she wanted to fulfill Cathy's Last wish of saving Nelson's life, as stated in the letter.
