Chapter: 3738
But Yvonne never seemed to be excited whenever she saw her father.

Still, Shawn always wore a smile on his face. Melissa knew that he was coming because of Janet, hoping that he would run into her during one of his visits. But every time he came around, Janet simply ignored him, not to mention agreeing to get back together with him.

In the late summer, Marcus visited his parents with Melissa and Matthew.

Even though they had not made any effort to make it public, Waylen and Rena could see that their relationship had been repaired. So they gifted Melissa two villas along with two luxurious apartments in the downtown area.

In addition, Rena was also planning to gift Melissa some jewelry.

Taking her up to the master bedroom which was on the second floor, Rena opened a safe. The first thing she picked up was the box containing an emerald necklace. "Oh, it's been long since the last time I held it," she murmured to herself.

The necklace looked really exquisite. But when Melissa took a closer look at it, she found that the piece seemed to have been broken before.

Yet, the Fowlers still kept it in their safe. Clearly, this necklace must be very important to them.

With this in mind, Melissa asked cautiously, "Is this necklace very important to you?"

Rena caressed the necklace affectionately for a moment before putting it back in the safe. "Yes, it's from an old friend of mine," she replied as she searched for an appropriate jewelry for Melissa. “He... he was gone a long time ago."

Melissa worked for Albert, so naturally she'd heard some things about Rena's past. From what she'd heard, she guessed that friend Rena was talking about was Harold Moore, the man who had once failed Rena but later regretted it badly.

“He must be in a better place now," Melissa said Lightly.

But Rena was thinking about the dream she had the other night.

"Well," she said with a smile, “that's all history now."

As she spoke, she pulled out a few sets of exquisite jewelry. “The emerald pieces might not fit someone your age," she said to Melissa, "so I guess you would prefer these ones instead. In fact, Marcus has been collecting a lot of them over the years. Even though he hasn't said anything, I know he must be preparing them for you. You can ask him later when you two are alone."

When Melissa heard this, her face turned red in embarrassment.

How could she ask Marcus about such a thing?

After they had chatted for some time, Rena decided to show Melissa some old photos of Marcus. Also, she gave Melissa a brief introduction about other kids in the family, including Alexis and Edwin, while showing her some old pictures of them.

"Edwin didn't know Uncle Mark was his father when he was little," she narrated excitedly. "So for many years, he just called him ‘Great-uncle'."

Melissa smiled faintly when she heard this.
