Chapter: 3951
Jessie sat at the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
It was then that Albert knocked on the door.
Jessie opened the door to find Albert standing there, his clothes damp as if he had just emerged from the sea, carried by a breeze laden with moisture.
Under the light, they gazed into each other's eyes.
After a moment of silence, Jessie asked hesitantly, "Aren't you supposed to be on a business trip?"
Albert's black eyes bore into her, refusing to look away immediately.
Eventually, he replied, "There's no flight. I drove back."
Jessie gestured to let him in, explaining, "She's asleep. I'll carry her out wrapped in a blanket."
Albert closed the door behind him.
He brushed the raindrops from his hair and lowered his voice. “I'll go in and check on her."
Jessie objected, “Albert, do you think it's right?"
Albert gazed at her intensely.
He had just spoken to Elsie. She informed him that Axell had dined with another woman, and he had even met her parents. However, Albert assumed Jessie was unaware of this.
Being a mature man, Albert chose not to reveal it at that moment.
After a pause, he explained, "I rushed back. I need to leave again in half an hour. Got an important meeting in the morning."
Jessie frowned. "You're not taking her with you?"
Albert had already made his way to the bedroom. Walking, he replied "I can take her, but this car doesn't have a car seat. It's not safe."
Jessie was about to protest. "Don't you have any help at home?"
Albert reached the bedroom door, his slender fingers gripping the doorknob. He whispered softly, “I've been caring for Jeslyn since she was an infant. Now, aside from Elsie, there's no one suitable to look after her. Jessie, would you mind taking care of Jeslyn for a few days? I'll collect her once I'm back from my trip. It won't be a bother for you."
Jessie's strength faltered, her gaze dropping as she spoke in a dry, strained voice. "Albert, your mere presence is trouble enough."
