Chapter: 3992
Upon hearing this, sadness slowly enveloped Jessie and she took Jeslyn from Elsie's arms and gently patted her.
As Jessie wasn't good at carrying children, she unintentionally woke Jeslyn up fully by holding her in an awkward position.
After blinking repeatedly, Jeslyn finally looked up at who was carrying her and, upon seeing Jessie, she felt safe in her arms.
With a sob, she snuggled against Jessie's chest and muttered, "Mommy..."
Jessie couldn't believe her ears when she heard this.
Under the glow of the incandescent lamp in the ward, her face turned pale and devoid of color.
Nestled in her arms was the child of the person she hated the most in the world. However, the child was so vulnerable and just addressed Jessie as her mother. Her innocence and sweetness almost moved Jessie to tears. The poor child didn't deserve to go through what Axell did to her.
Afraid that Jeslyn could in some way disappear out of her arms, Jessie pressed her closer to herself and stroked her back gently.
Lying on the bed, Albert quietly took in the scene in front of him.
Standing beside them, Elsie pursed her lips and wiped off the tears that were gathering in her eyes. Being one who was always careful with her words, she hadn't told anyone that having seen Jeslyn's blood type earlier, she was certain that the kid wasn't Albert's child with his late wife.
However, Elsie was certain that Jeslyn would end up being Albert and Jessie's child in the future.
At that moment, Albert signaled to her and said "Go and prepare some wontons, please. I'm pretty sure that they are both hungry."
Elsie dried her tears and nodded, saying, "I'll get it ready quickly."
A little while later, Elsie called Jessie into the suite and handed her a bowl of wantons. Jessie then proceeded to feed half of it to Jeslyn who then, after having such a heavy meal after not eating for a whole day, easily fell asleep back.
After watching over her for a while, Jessie told Elsie to watch over Jeslyn and then returned to the Albert's room alone.
Since it was very deep in the night by this point, Jessie was quite surprised to see that Albert was still awake, obviously waiting for her.
Walking up to the bedside, she asked softly, "The news going around, did you spread it intentionally?"
Albert cocked his head slightly and stared at her unblinkingly with his black eyes. He then shrugged and replied, "I was injured and really wanted to see you, but had no idea where you were. So I had someone spread the news of what happened, and since you're here now, I think it's fair to say that my plan worked out, right?"
Not interested in fanning Albert's ego, Jessie decided to drop the topic.
Rubbing her hands together, she got up and announced that she was leaving.
