Chapter: 4079
The chauffeur awaited. Noreen stepped out of the car.
Putting aside her own feelings, Anika greeted Noreen with a soft, "Morning!"
Noreen merely nodded.
As Anika returned, her gait seemed off, as if she'd just had wild sex.
Noreen sneered. "Not exactly prim and proper, huh?"
Seated in the car, Leonel casually inquired, “What's the jab for?"
Noreen shot straight. "Mr. Douglas, you have to keep up with the times. Men your age have got some polish. You're falling behind, hanging onto Miss Cohen.”
Leonel said nothing in return.
He glanced back, catching Anika's limping stride.
Lost in thought, Noreen piped up, “As long as you aren't second-guessing, Mr. Douglas."
Leonel kept his composure. "Just drive."
From then on, Leonel grew distant with Anika, rarely visiting her place.
Despite her constant invites, he'd only occasionally grab dinner with her. She hardly caught sight of him. Noreen always cited his busy schedule.
Anika figured it was because of Alexis.
One day, Alexis exited court after having wrapped up a case.
A white Maserati waited outside the courthouse, window down. Anika removed her shades, eyeing Alexis. "Mrs. Douglas, have you got a minute to chat?"
Alexis, standing tall, flashed a smile. “It's my working hour, so Ms. Fowler will do. You've got sixty seconds. Go over, and there will be a counsel fee."
Anika's mood soured. "Why throw your title in my face?"
Worried Alexis might bolt, Anika rushed, "When's the divorce? He's struggling. Every time he opens up, I feel his pain. Set him free, Ms. Fowler. Stop adding to his misery."
Alexis found it ironic. She scoffed, “Take it up with Leonel."
