Chapter: 4167
The servant's complexion paled as she hastily interjected, “It was Mrs. Douglas who gave it to me."
"She gave it to you?"
Leonel's smile was sardonic. "For what reason would she give you such a valuable watch? Your excuses are feeble. I'll notify the authorities at once."
The servant was so frightened.
Indifferent to her own gain and potential betrayal of Alexis, the servant confessed, "Mrs. Douglas requested that I purchase birth control pills for her."
Speaking tentatively, she observed Leonel's face.
Fearing potential violence from Leonel toward Alexis, she cautiously eyed his reactions.
It was common knowledge among the staff that Leonel and Alexis‘ relationship was unconventional and that Alexis was effectively confined by him.
Leonel maintained an impassive expression.
After toying with the diamond watch briefly, Leonel nonchalantly returned it to the servant, remarking, "Since Alexis gifted it to you, it's yours to keep."
The servant expressed gratitude swiftly, but her gratitude waned as uncertainty crept in.
Was Leonel really so easy-going?
Leonel's gaze softened as he spoke gently. "Tomorrow morning, there will be a bottle of medicine on the desk in my study. Take it to Alexis. From now on, you will attend to her needs. If anything happens to her, you will be held accountable."
The servant's heart quivered; she sensed something amiss with the medication, but fear of Leonel silenced her suspicions.
Regrettably, she found herself compelled to betray Alexis.
After dismissing the servant, Leonel returned to the bedroom. True to his expectations, Alexis appeared composed. She sat in the Living room wearing a bathrobe, reading quietly.
In truth, she often remained quiet when he didn't push her, avoiding confrontation.
She was clever enough to recognize that playing the devil's advocate would only provoke him further.
Shutting the door behind him, Leonel approached Alexis and addressed her calmly. "I noticed the servant leaving a moment ago. You've barely touched your food. Alexis, if you remain underweight and frail, conceiving will be difficult. And even if you do conceive, you may struggle to carry the child to term."
Casually flipping through the book, Alexis replied in a cold tone, "I have no desire to have a child with you, Leonel. I've made it clear that if you desire children, there are plenty of women willing to bear them for you. They can bear children of any skin tone you desire."
