Chapter: 4187
"What! When was I ever immature?" Marcus scolded in mock anger and slapped her backside playfully.
Melissa couldn't help but blush shyly.
Later in the afternoon, Waylen told the couple that they should consider taking their leave. "You guys need to go home, take care of the children and live your lives like you've always done," he admonished. “I and Rena will take care of Alexis. It's not good for everyone to constantly be around her. It will only create unnecessary tension."
Marcus understood what his father was saying. He also believed that the excessive attention that Alexis was getting from the family might not be beneficial for her recovery.
After thinking for a while, he said, “Okay, but we'll be back in the next couple of days. If you need anything, just give us a call.”
Seeing how affectionate Marcus and Melissa were to each other, Waylen felt somewhat comforted.
Even though Marcus could be a bit stubborn sometimes, he knew when to show vulnerability and make compromises for those he cared about.
Marcus had always been someone who knew what he wanted from Life and never was one to waste time when it came to matters of the heart.
This was why he ultimately won Melissa over. Waylen felt that Marcus had done a much better job with his love life than his own father and this made him proud.
After seeing off Marcus and Melissa, Waylen went upstairs to Alexis‘ bedroom door. He knocked on it before entering.
Rena was in the room, chatting with Alexis. When she saw Waylen, she quickly said to him, “Waylen, Alexis wants to go back to work. Please tell her that she needs to rest a bit more. She is still too weak."
Waylen didn't say anything at first. The first thing he did was to close the door slowly and look at the agreement on the coffee table.
He immediately guessed what it was, so he didn't bother to ask.
“Don't you understand your own daughter yet?" he said to his wife with a smile. “She doesn't have to take on any new cases for now. Just handle some light office matters. I know that being busy will help you a lot. So, don't worry, sweetheart. I support you."
Rena felt very helpless when she heard this. Obviously, the father and daughter had ganged up against her!
"Thank you, Dad!" Alexis said happily to her father for his support.
"Don't mention, my dear," Waylen chuckled, rubbing his hands in satisfaction. "It's a good thing that everyone is focused on work. In fact, I just sent Marcus and Melissa away. But when it's Christmas, you must all come back and have a lively family gathering. It's been a long time since we properly celebrated Christmas.
This is all about family, and we should indeed celebrate it properly.
Rena smiled and didn't say anything about it.
When they got back to their bedroom, Waylen dropped his joking attitude and embraced his wife gently. "You've been through a lot these days," he said to her in a low voice. "I know you might blame me for not caring for our daughter well enough, but Alexis has always been a strong-willed girl. Keeping her locked up at home Like a patient is what would cause real harm to her. Don't worry. Nothing will happen to her. Work can actually help take things off of her mind. Rena, there are some wounds that can only heal with time."
