Chapter: 4197
Albert eventually came downstairs, the sound of his footsteps sounding lightly on the steps. He had not treated his little daughter carelessly at all. Instead, he had spent almost two hours with her until she fell asleep before he returned to the master bedroom.
At this point, Jessie was on the phone with her mother.
“Well, I won't come back tonight," she was saying to her.
But all of a sudden, Albert held her from behind and rested his chin on her thin shoulder. He could even overhear Lettie's voice on the phone.
Jessie was startled by the sudden hug and she quickly hung up the phone after saying goodbye.
"Did your mother say you can stay the night with me?" Albert asked, hugging her tighter.
He had always spoken shamelessly. He took special delight in saying things that would make her blush. But right now, Jessie wasn't in the mood to deal with him, yet Albert wouldn't let go of her.
Leading her to the window, he pinned her against it and began to kiss her passionately.
It was a clumsy and chaotic kiss.
Worse still, the curtains were pulled open. There were a few neon lights in the distance and thin snowflakes falling outside, looking as if they were going to float into Jessie's heart. After a while, Albert whispered softly to her, “Jessie, should we spend every Christmas together from now on?"
Her delicate body was still pressed against the window.
She felt so embarrassed.
How could he ask her that now?
But Albert didn't seem to care how she felt. Instead, he pulled a big and shiny diamond ring out of his pocket. He didn't really propose to her with the ring. Instead, he just went down on one knee, held her slender hand and slid the ring into her ring finger.
It was a perfect fit and it looked dazzling.
He gave her a kiss on her hand while still on his knee. Still, he didn't get up immediately. He remained in the same posture for a long time. He didn't utter any word, but it was like as if he had said all he had to say.
In the dimness of the room, Albert suddenly noticed a bright glow in Jessie's eye.
It was a glow caused by tears.
"Don't cry, Jessie. Please don't cry," he urged her.
Then he gave her a gentle hug and wiped away the tears from her eyes.
